Covid-19

Not just in 2020…

and not just COVID-19. Infection is not something new or unique, but every year we see epidemics (e.g. stomach illness and influenza) that affect our most vulnerable population and thus reduce their quality of life and longevity. Sensors and smart technology are here to stay and have the potential to become an important part of caring for our elderly. Creative digital solutions not only make homes and everyday lives safer but also prevent infectious diseases which in term allows for more social interactions combating loneliness.

Over 7 000 seniors have died of Covid-19 in Sweden alone. Using technology to facilitate socially distanced care will save lives.

Our digital life

In Sweden today there are 90,000 elderly people living in nursing homes and another 240,000 who use home-care. This demographic isn’t being provided with the latest technology that could help not only them but their caregivers as well. The care they do get is usually determined by others on the terms of others. We at Cenvigo want to change this. We want to give the power back to our seniors.

Digitalization for the elderly

When it comes to keeping our elderly safe, security cameras are the most ubiquitous digital tool used today. They can be used as AI that recognizes motion, monitoring a time schedule, or simply surveilling sleep. However, these devices are often installed without the consent of the person being watched which can easily lead to anxiety and a sense of powerlessness. Cenvigo aims to incorporate technology into elderly care without comprising privacy or dignity.

Does security have to be a camera?

No, security can come in other forms. We at Cenvigo have developed a sensor to strengthen the standard of living for the elderly and increase security without compromising privacy. Our sensor is placed in beds and can from there analyze what sleep patterns look like, indicate how the heart is feeling, and how the quality of breathing is. With this, we can help reduce the spread of infection, increase energy levels, and contribute to better care, no matter where in life the person is.

EIT

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) was set up by the European Union in 2008 to strengthen Europe's innovation capacity. The EIT is an important part of Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

By bringing together companies, research laboratories, and research companies, the EIT helps innovators and entrepreneurs across Europe transform their best ideas into products, services, jobs, and growth.

Feedback från EIT:

The solution to make the ageing population feel healthy for longer years is unique, innovative and has the capability to transform the healthcare system. The project is in line with EIT Health’s ambition and strategy.

This project has huge potential due to the unmet need for no-contact (remote) care for patients. The impact could be substantial if successful, and there is a good understanding of the stakeholders' needs. The Consortium has the right experience and expertise to further commercialize the innovative elderly care service, provided that the innovation proves efficacious and there is an uptake by the end users.
